Our own Chris Ortiz hit up Planet Comicon Kansas City over the weekend, and here’s a batch of shots from the floor of the show, as well as some of the celebs in attendance, as well as vendor booths with everything from droids to an Audrey II. Check out our interviews with guests Richard Dreyfuss and space captain William Shatner.

Sunday wrapped up the 24th annual Planet Comicon, held at Bartle Hall in Downtown Kansas City. This event, which saw Celebrities like William Shatner, Richard Dreyfuss, Cassandra Peterson, and others, cosplayers, artists, merchants, robots/droids and video games, brought thousands of people to the area.

Planet Comicon is not only the biggest pop culture convention in the area, but for the region, attracting people from all over the US and the world. During the three days, attendees got close and personal with some of their favorite screen and film celebrities, comic book creators, graphic artists, WWE stars, and real-life astronauts.

Awards were given out to some of the top cosplayers, or people engaged in dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, presented by Planet Comicon and NFM, who attended the convention. The celebrities in attendance were present at booths where attendees could get autographs and take photos with them.  When not at their booths, in a part of the convention hall called “Celebrity Row,” people could attend panel discussions that lasted 50 minutes in length where both people in the audience and the moderator could ask questions to which the celebrity would answer, tell stories, and relive moments of the past.

While the event originally started at the Overland Park Convention Center, attendance over the past 24 years has grown so much that a bigger hall was needed. Now the event has grown large enough to expand into the new Planet Anime in the fall on October 21-22, 2023, slated as an “anime-focused event will make its debut at the Kansas City Convention Center’s Bartle Hall” according to the Planet Comicon website.
