The year 2010 ended on a bittersweet note for Kansas City’s Willis family, who closed one of the few locally owned restaurants in the Power & Light District, the two-year-old Peachtree Restaurant, on December 5. (The company president, Vera Willis, explained the reasons for the restaurant’s demise in a letter to her customers in January).

The Willis family had already closed a Lee’s Summit location. But the flagship restaurant, the popular Peachtree Buffet, continued to operate at 6800 Eastwood Trafficway. That restaurant is now closed, with paper covering the windows. “Mrs. Willis isn’t sure what she’s going to do with the space yet,” one of the restaurant’s employees told Fat City.

There is now a smaller venue, located in a building just behind the old restaurant, called the Peachtree Restaurant. “We’re serving the same food but with table service,” the employee said.
