Cork and Barrel (16920 E. US 24 Highway) starts the Cinco De Mayo celebration early in Independence with a Sangrita tasting tonight from 4 to 8. Frequently confused with Sangria — the wine and fruit cocktail of Spain — Sangrita is meant to accompany a shot of tequila. It’s often made with citrus juice (orange, lime, grapefruit), chili powder or Tabasco sauce and tomato juice. It’s an eye opener.
The Wine Barn in Kansas City, Kansas, will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with free wine tastings daily. The winery is known for sweet wines like apple pear, blackberry and concord sweet.
