You need plans. Fat City has a recycle bin full of listings. In this post, all our problems are solved.
How good is your chili? If you want to find out, bring a pot down to the Kansas State Open Chili Cookoff Saturday in Overland Park. The cookoff is being held at VFW Post 846 (8804 Grant), with both homestyle and Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI) categories. It’s $20 to enter your chili, which must be turned in by 1 p.m. for homestyle and 2 p.m. for the CASI category. If you just want to attend, organize ask for a $3 donation, which benefits the VFW.
Celebrate the reopening of Mike’s Tavern (5424 Troost), which has a completely new interior and upscale pub fare. The new menu includes smoked sausage sandwiches and fish and chips. It’s good to see the bar on Troost back in business.
The Pitch‘s Taste of KC comes to the Power & Light District on Sunday. Pizza and pierogi are among the choices from 23 restaurants. Tasting starts at 5 p.m., and the event is 21-and-older because beer and cocktails are part of the admission price — you get three drink tickets. It’s $35 in advance, $40 at the door.
