Now re-opened: Kennedy’s Bar

Just over two years ago, a devastating fire caused Kennedy’s Bar to look like this. Now, with a new two-level multi-function space, Kennedy’s is back on its familiar corner at 75th Street just west of Wornall.

It opened in its permanent home two weeks ago. General manager AJ Cahn told me the space looks immaculate, modern, nearly glistening. I heard many adjectives used to describe the old Kennedy’s, but glistening was never one of them.

Kennedy’s still bills itself as an Irish bar, and the menu and drink selection partially reflects that. Currently the menu is small, with four appetizers and four entrees of typical bar fair like chips n’ salsa ($3.99), buffalo wings ($8.99), chicken fingers ($.7.99) and fish ‘n chips ($8.49). “It’s a limited menu but we’re planning to expand it over the next two weeks,” Cahn said. He has 12 beers on tap including Boulevard wheat and pale ale, Guinness Bass, Stella, Sam Adam’s lager, Blue Moon and Michelob Amber Bock.

Starting this Friday, every weekday will be a happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. with $2 wells, $2.50 domestic draws, $3 import draws, $5 domestic pitchers and $3 import bottles. Kennedy’s is open 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday and closed Sundays. It will also be featuring live music “a couple times a month.” Rolling Stones cover band The Licks play tomorrow starting at 8 p.m.

Kennedy’s new address is 500 W. 75th Street and its telephone number is 816-361-9788.
