Now open: Spin Pizza on Main

Spin Pizza has opened its first location in Kansas City, Missouri, in the new mini-strip-mall at 50th and Main, a block that nostalgic UMKC alums will remember as the first Planet Sub in Kansas City.
Spin’s co-owner Gail Lozoff, was the co-founder of Bagel & Bagel, which got its start only a mile and a half to the south at 63rd and Brookside.
Spin serves Neapolitan-style pizza, which is a thin-crust pizza with lots of sauce and little cheese. Because each pizza must be rolled by hand, it has eccentric circles with a crispy crust that rises in places and falls in others. In addition to pizza, Spin also offers sandwiches, salad, gelato and, most important, wine.
The Spin Pizza in Leawood is constantly hosting events featuring its wine and I hope that, without the constraints of Kansas liquor laws, the new Spin will improve that tradition. Spin’s wine menu is unique in that all 20 wines by the bottle cost the same: $18. Spin also offers a house red and white by the glass, half liter and full liter. Cellar Rat owner Ryan Sciara (a new father, congratulations!) helped pick out the 20 wines.
Spin on Main is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Its phone number is 816-561-7746 and its Web site is here.
