Now Open: Sabor y Sol Mexican Restaurant

The ownership of the Mexican restaurant at 542 Southwest Boulevard didn’t change, but almost everything else has: the former Sol Azteca cantina is now Sabor y Sol. “It means the flavors of the sun,” said the manager, passing out chips slathered with fresh guacamole at the restaurant’s entrance. The venue was closed for several months while the interior of the once-dark dining rooms got a snazzy makeover. New windows were added to the north side of the building, letting lots of light into the building which is also spiffier and more polished than it ever was in the Sol Azteca days.

The menu, heavy on Tex-Mex favorites like fajitas, chimichangas and tacos, is modestly-priced and the kitchen is now making guacamole to order, served in a stone molcajete. The costliest dish on the menu is the Mexican-style shrimp cocktail at $12.
