Now Open: Murray’s Tables & Tap in south Kansas City

There’s a very nice 50-seat patio in back of the new Murray’s Tables & Tap at 12921 State Line, but the weather has been so damn hot, most customers currently prefer to sit inside. “At least until the sun goes down,” says one of the servers. And the interior of the space is certainly alluring on a blistering June afternoon, comfortably designed in a palette of cool earth tones – browns, tans, sage and rust – with cozy booths and, as the title suggests, tables.

Owner Patrick Murray opened his pub on June 7th; the space was formerly occupied by Maya’s Mexican Bistro. The meats here are house-smoked: ribs, brisket, wings and corned beef. I can attest to the glories of the moist, tender corned beef, because I recently had the pleasure of eating one of the best Reuben sandwiches in the city right here, made with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and house-made Thousand Island dressing. I wanted to order the sandwich with steak fries or beer-battered onion rings, but I’m on a diet. So I ordered the very rich macaroni and cheese as a side dish instead.
