No baby shoes, No service

A Burger King in Sunset Hills, Missouri, is safe from barefoot babies after a manager apparently took the rulebook of “no shirt, no shoes, no service” a bit too far.

As detailed in this KNBC interview, Jennifer Frederich carried her six-month old daughter into the burger shop expecting to order dinner. Instead she was asked to make her order to-go, as the manager informed her that her daughter was in violation of the health code.

“I just looked at him and said, ‘That’s my daughter. She doesn’t own shoes. She’s only six months old’,” Frederich told KNBC

A Burger King spokesman suggested that company policy was perhaps being adhered to a bit stringently and Ms. Frederich has been offered a free meal as an apology.

“Our franchisee, which independently owns and operates this restaurant,

apologizes for this guest’s experience,” reads a statement released by the company, “The

franchisee is retraining his restaurant team on the proper use of the

‘no shoes’ policy.”

Should you find yourself in a similar situation, all you need is a Sharpie, according to this post on Instructables — which guides you on how to use a marker to create the appearance of flip-flops. Although it should go without saying, do not use this technique on your baby.

As for Ms. Frederich, no word yet on whether she’ll be receiving that free meal courtesy of the drive-through.
