Ninfa’s is famous for fresh tortillas with Parkay margarine

Since 1988, the Garza family has been serving freshly made tortillas and modestly priced Mexican food at Ninfa’s Tortillas and Taqueria at 964 Kansas Avenue in the Armourdale neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas. But unlike almost every other cantina in the metro, the meals at Ninfa’s are not preceded by a basket of fried corn tortilla chops and salsa but with soft flour tortillas and a blue-plastic squeeze bottle of Parkay margarine.
Yeah, it’s not for every taste, and I would never think of using — or even purchasing — liquid margarine in a squeeze bottle for use at home. But honestly, and all kidding aside, there’s something kind of tasty about a fresh, supple tortilla dripping with bright-yellow soybean oil, water, salt, hydrogenated cottonseed oil, vegetable monoglycerides, soy lecithin, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate, and artificial flavors.
