New York Dawg Pound, the four-year-old weiner shop at 7702 Shawnee Mission Parkway, announced that it was “closed permanently” on its Facebook page on October 27.

But New York-style frankfurters haven’t vanished from the metro. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, d’Bronx will now be serving “Griddled Crisp” hot dogs using Nathan’s New York all-beef hot dogs. These dogs — available with a choice of sauerkraut, relish, onions, ketchup and mustard — will be cooked to order on the d’Bronx flattop grill. The classic Coney Island Chili Dog (with all-meat chili, spicy brown mustard and diced onion) will also be available.

The franks will be served on a split-top egg bun From Farm to Market Bread Co.

The four d’Bronx locations will start serving the Nathan’s hot dogs every day later this month, but d’Bronx owner Don Foringer is doing a slow rollout of the product this week, with each of the locations offering the specialty dogs on a different day of the week.

The hot dogs were introduced — during the lunch shift only — today at the Overland Park d’Bronx at 7070 West 105th Street. Tomorrow — Wednesday, November 11 — will be the day that Kansas City’s original d”Bronx venue at 3904 Bell gets its turn to offer the Nathan’s dogs; they will be available only at this location on this day.

The Mission location at 6846 Johnson Drive will have its dog day on Thursday, November 12, and the Crown Center restaurant at 2450 Grand will have its opportunity to serve the featured frankfurters this Friday only, November 13. During this prelaunch promotion period, a classic dog will be priced at $1 each, and a Coney Island chili dog will be priced at $1.50. The hot dogs will be available only from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Foringer says the official launch of daily availability of the dogs — and regular pricing — will be announced on the d’Bronx Facebook page later in November.
