McLain’s Bakery is moving off Wornall Road in September

• The venerable McLain’s Bakery moves off Waldo’s main shopping strip next month.

One of the oldest continuously operating bakeries in Kansas City, McLain’s Bakery, is moving out of its longtime location at 7422 Wornall next month; the bakery had opened in that space in 1945. “We’ll be opening the doors of our new location,” said the woman behind the counter — she sold me a butter roll early this morning, “on Tuesday, September 6. We’ll never be closed for business. After we close this store for business at noon on Saturday, September 3, we’ll start moving everything to the new place.”
