KC Symphony European Tour Diary: Berlin (Day Three)

The Kansas City Symphony is in the midst of its European tour and is sharing images and reactions from the trip with The Pitch. Their third and final date was on Sunday, August 30, when the Symphony returned to Berlin to play at the Philharmonie Berlin, performing original works by composer Olga Neuwirth, who was also in attendance.

Says David Yoon, the Symphony’s acting principal percussionist, of their Berlin date:

“There are few concert halls that produce such clarity and warmth from both the players’ and audience’s perspective, and that is the aspect of the Philharmonie Berlin that stands above other great venues. I enjoyed performing [Neuwirth’s] Dreydl bongo part that is very Bolero-esque. The main challenge was to keep the opening soft while traveling the distance between two drums as opposed to Bolero, where you play a repeating pattern on one drum. Going on tour with the KCS is such an incredible privilege, and I eagerly await our next international adventure.”
