KC Sipps: Microgrants for women in food and bev, and Añejo Modern Mexican Cuisine opens third location

Something New

News Bites: Les Dames d’Escoffier International Kansas City Chapter is accepting applications for microgrants for women in existing women-owned culinary businesses. Five grants will be awarded to help further the contributions of women in the greater Kansas City culinary community. Applications are due October 1. 

Opening

Añejo Modern Mexican Cuisine: In addition to locations in Zona Rosa and Legends, Añejo has recently opened a new spot in downtown Kansas City. Still in its soft-opening phase, Añejo is at 1006 Walnut St in the former Charisse space. The Mexican restaurant has standard seating as well as indoor and outdoor patio seating. Full opening details will be announced soon on their social media accounts.

Closing

Minsky’s Pizza: Minsky’s has closed its Lawrence location, effective immediately. The local pizza chain is in the midst of celebrating 50 years of serving the Kansas City metro, and had the Lawrence location since 2012. 

Uptown Lounge: After four years as a cocktail bar with nightly live music, Uptown Lounge at 34th and Main St. has closed. The owners are looking to sell, in order to focus on health and family, according to the website. 

August 6

Comida KC: Tonight at Union Station, Comida KC will celebrate Latin cuisine and culture while benefitting Greater Kansas City Hispanic Collaborative. The event is centered around foods and drinks that showcase flavors, recipes, and traditions of Indigenous Peoples, North/Central/South America, the Caribbean, and Spain. Tickets start at $150 for this benefit event.

August 8

Neighbors Coffee: Congrats on one year in business, Neighbors! To celebrate, they’re offering daily specials through Monday, as well as kids activities, giveaways, and more.

Plan Ahead

Salumi Rose: On August 20, Salumi Rose and Sunshine Soirée are hosting a special Mamma Mia-themed event. Tickets are $85 and include on-theme, Italian-inspired foods, one drink, and a guided sip-and-paint experience of two hand-painted wine glasses to take home.

Pearl Tavern: Pearl Tavern’s final shrimp boil of the summer is happening on August 26 in Lee’s Summit, and tickets are already running low. $37.50 covers 1 Ib. of shrimp, andouille sausage, corn, and potatoes, plus cheddar biscuits, mac and cheese, and dessert.
