KC Sipps: Free pizza for a year, prominent patios open, and two Blue Springs alerts
This week's Kansas City restaurant news.
Life in KC is pretty delicious. In fact, there is often so much going on that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to try.
That’s where I come in.
I’ve curated this weekly list of events, openings, deals, and celebrations to keep you in-the-know. Cheers!
Something New
News Bites: Do you have a pizza recipe you’re proud of? Submit it to Waldo Pizza for a chance to see it on the menu and win one free pizza a week for a year. The Battle of the Pies is open through May 10. All submissions with detailed ingredients and instructions will receive free cheese bread or breadsticks with the purchase of a meal.
Opening
Pizza Tascio: Pizza Tascio opened on NW Barry Road on April 13. This New York-style pizza shop serves both by the slice and by the pie, and my go-to order is the cheesy breadsticks. Olathe, you’re next!
Percheron: The rooftop bar and restaurant atop Crossroads Hotel is open for the season. Since this is my namesake column, I’m allowed to play favorites here, and Percheron is definitely a favorite. Chef Aaron Cross Wells-Morgan makes slight tweaks to the Mediterranean-inspired menu each spring, but the dishes are always fresh, bright, and leave you feeling better than when you arrived. This year, my favorite cocktails are the pistachio espresso martini and the bergamot daiquiri, which tastes closer to a complex gimlet. The five-mezze platter offers the best of the menu with customizable dips. This year, some seating is reservation-based and some is for walk-ins only, but may have a waitlist during peak times. Groups of six people or more are encouraged to reserve online in advance, just like in past seasons.
Electric Park Garden Bar: J. Rieger & Co.’s outdoor patio space has opened for the season. This one is (leashed) dog-friendly! No reservations are required for this space, which is complete with a new food truck menu inspired by the original Electric Park amusement park, which opened in the area in 1899. Every Thursday during April through June, starting at 6 p.m., the park hosts Manor Records for free, all-ages concerts from local artists.
Whistle Stop Coffee: It’s not just the bees buzzing at Colonial Farms… guests can join with a caffeine fix! Whistle Stop Coffee from Lee’s Summit has opened a satellite location for the season at Powell Gardens Colonial Farms in Blue Springs (formerly Colonial Gardens), Thursdays through Sundays from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. The menu features pastries, breakfast and lunch dishes, and over 40 custom-roasted coffees inside the retail center.
April 25
Bite of Blue Springs: The monthly food truck festival returns for 2026. Downtown Blue Springs hosts a food truck night from 4:30 – 8 p.m., each fourth Saturday from April through October. This weekend features a range of foods from brunch to Bangladeshi to burgers. No tickets or registration required.
April 26
Wanderfest: Bop around the Midtown neighborhood that is home to some of my favorite eateries: Cliff’s Taphouse, The Fix, Good Karma Coffee, and more! From 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., visit 30+ local businesses and vendors at 31st and Gillham/Cherry area to complete a Wanderfest passport for a chance to win a prize.
