KC Sipps: Andre’s and Café Cà Phê pivot, Triune opens near Kauffman Center, and free jello shots
This week's Kansas City restaurant news.
Looking for delicious plans? Whether you want to impress a date, show your fam the best of KC, or just get out of the house, we’ve got you covered… all while supporting (mostly) local.
Here is your weekly roundup of the best food and drink offerings around Kansas City. Cheers!
Something New
Woody’s: Woody’s in Midtown is offering one hell of a deal to encourage voter participation. From now through November, enjoy 50% off your bar tab on Tuesday nights when you prove that you’re a registered voter.
Strange Days Brewing: Strange Days Brewing in River Market is celebrating the grand opening of Burn Theory from August 1-4 with new permanent menu items like the Cubano sandwich and teriyaki shrimp tacos. Strange Days Mug Club members get $4 mug pours all week with proof of food purchase, plus 15% off all food purchases on Wednesdays.
715: On Lawrence’s iconic Mass. Street, 715 is hosting a “sale!” Through August 3, diners can take advantage of deals on their top-notch food and drink, such as shrimp cocktail for $1.50, a $5 sangria, a $12 patty melt, and more.
Guy’s Snacks: For a special Guy’s-style celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Monarchs winning the inaugural Negro Leagues World Series, Guy’s Snacks has released a special chip bag. Each bag of original flavor chips pays tribute to the icons of baseball past, and a portion of the proceeds goes to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. They will be available in most stores that carry Guy’s Snacks products, as well as online.
Opening
Triune: Reservations are available now for the opening weekend of Triune. This new spot from the team behind Sauced is just steps from the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts. The menu features global dishes and small plates, craft cocktails, and mocktails served to bar seating, tables, and a patio. It is open to the public starting July 31.
Closing
Café Cà Phê: Don’t panic–the full cafe in Columbus Park is safe. The satellite location of Café Cà Phê inside 12th Street Post has closed. Instead of this weekends-only spot, the cafe is resurrecting its mobile coffee cart, which you will start to see popping up at events around Kansas City.
Andre’s Chocolates & Confiserie Suisse: Again, don’t stress–Andre’s is not closing overall. The South Plaza location has announced plans to condense dining rooms and is, therefore, closing the Tearoom. The last day of Tearoom service will be Saturday, August 17. Starting August 20, all food and beverages will be served exclusively from the café for a streamlined but more open experience.
August 2
The Davenport: In Strawberry Hill, The Davenport is hosting a Royals watch party from 4 – 7 p.m. Celebrate each Royals homerun (here’s hoping) with jello shots on the house!
First Fridays: It’s going to be a hot one, but that doesn’t slow us down when it comes to First Fridays in Crossroads and beyond. Pierpont’s has a stellar offer for a wine tasting, while KC Night Market’s Ice Cream Social theme will cool off shoppers at Big Brothers Big Sisters. No Vacancy is debuting its newest space, The Lobby, with a free art show from 4 – 10 p.m. HiTides Coffee in East Crossroads will host their usual lineup of cool vendors like Chivos Food Truck, Quarantine Cookie, Sweet Peaches Cobbler, and more from 6 – 10 p.m.
August 3
High Hopes: From 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., enjoy some of the city’s best ice cream as High Hopes pops up in West Bottoms. Don’t miss this First Saturday treat behind the Waterin’ Hole Bar at ADHDIY Craft Cafe inside 12th Street Post. No Craft Cafe reservations are required… but it does happen to be a fantastic idea for staying cool and indoors on a hot August day.
August 4
The Local Pig: Are you known for your mad BLT skills? Put them to the test at the Slow Food Kansas City BLT Challenge, held at The Local Pig in City Market. Competitors can register through July 31 for $20, and anyone is welcome to purchase a $25 ticket that includes a Local Pig BLT and raffle tickets that support Slow Food Kansas City. Our very own Michael Mackie, champion of the secret menu finds, is one of the judges!
Plan Ahead
Mean Mule Distilling Co.: On August 6 from 4 – 10 p.m., let Mean Mule school you on fun cocktails inspired by school lunch classics like PBJ, milk, canned peaches, soda, pizza, and even a ham sandwich at the Back to School cocktail event. Tickets are $55 and include two cocktails and a charcuterie snack from Graze and Gather KC. Profits benefit Garfield Elementary students. Feel free to bring a donation of school supplies and receive a free gift.
Panther’s Place: Panther’s Place is using its cocktail expertise and collaborating with Billie’s Grocery to present a one-time, summer-inspired meal on August 8. Tickets are $65 and include four fresh dinner courses and a welcome cocktail. This outdoor event is 21+.
Rye: Learn the secrets behind Rye Plaza’s famous cinnamon rolls on Saturday, August 10, from 2 – 4 p.m., with a hands-on cinnamon roll class with Pastry Chef Keara Masson. Tickets are $90, including the class and a dozen cinnamon rolls complete with cream cheese icing. No sharing required. We won’t tell.
