KC Beer Fest 2008 rocks the parking garage

By OWEN MORRIS and NICOLE REINERTSON
As those 75,000 of you who went to the Obama rally know, Saturday was an absolutely beautiful fall day. The kind of day when you look up at the sky and wonder why can’t Kansas City weather be like this all the time.
In addition to political rallies, Saturday was also a great day for drinking beer and that’s exactly what Fat City photographer-extraordinaire Nicole Reinertson spent her Saturday doing. She attended the second leg of the second annual KC BeerFest at the Legends in Village West. (The first leg was in the Power & Light District earlier this year.)
Reinertson estimated attendance at about a thousand people (mostly dressed in KU garb) and that it was bitchin’ time. In her own words:
Let it be said, for the record, this is the SECOND best time I’ve had in a parking garage (the first dates back to the ’90s which involves a 1986 tan Pontiac 6000, a homemade bomb and a surveillance video).
I found out about half-way through the tasting that God, herself, had produced a perfect day and that I was actually at a charity event!” The Kansas City Free Health Clinic and the AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City were the charities and had managed to gather beer vendors from over 75 breweries to get us drunk for a purpose.
