Kathi Rohlfing leads Wine Club tastings at Trezo Vino

Each Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m., Wine Club members gather at Trezo Vino to try a selection of wines from a particular region or winery. The lineup has been designed by new beverage director/sommelier Kathi Rohlfing, now in her second month at the Leawood restaurant.

“The atmosphere is geared towards getting people to share, while experiencing different winemakers or varietals each week,” says Rohlfing, who has previously worked at Room 39 in Leawood, the Hotel Phillips, Culinary Concepts in Crown Center, and Ophelia’s in Independence.

The Wine Club (which comes with access to classes and discounted bottles) costs $50 to join and each of the tastings is $15, which includes five wine samplings paired with a one- or two-bite small plate. Trezo Vino’s chefs design a special wine pairing menu each week.

“In the Midwest, people tend to gravitate towards California Cabs and there is so much more,” says Rohlfing.

Tonight will focus on wines from Oregon, while the next three sessions cover wines from Spain, Washington’s Charles Smith, and unique varietals from Chile and South Africa. Rohlfing is also open to input from members, sometimes designing the next month’s slate of tastings based on feedback from those in attendance.
