Is Kansas City ready for another speakeasy?

Chicago is frothing over details that have been leaked about chef Grant Achatz’s new, invite-only, 14-seat speakeasy, the Office. While the decor or vibe may be different in the Windy City, we hold our own when it comes to downing drinks at the bar.

When you combine that enthusiasm with a burgeoning cocktail culture — anchored by Manifesto and the restaurant above it, the Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange — I’m wondering if Kansas City is due for another speakeasy. Manifesto and the Firefly Lounge in Westport debuted in 2009, but since then, no other homages to our proud pre-Prohibition and Prohibition drinking days have appeared. How about it, drinkers? Are you ready for another speakeasy in KC?
