Gary Lezak has been delivering the weather to Kansas City viewers for more than fifteen years and is currently Chief Meteorologist on NBC’s Kansas City Affiliate, KSHB. He also keeps a blog on KSHB’s Web site where he writes in-depth about the weather and posts photos of his two dogs, Breezy and Stormy. I caught up with him in the action news center, to find out what he eats when no one is watching.

Right now I’m on a really big health kick. If I’m really going to break down, I love chicken so I have to say my favorite dish of all time is Chicken Kiev. It’s fried and high in fat but it’s so good, it’s probably the best-tasting food out there.

I actually make my own Chicken Kiev. It’s like the one gourmet dish I can make myself. It’s basically a fried chicken breast that’s closed and surrounded and has a pocket in the middle and it’s got butter and seasonings inside and you put some special flavoring in there. I have my own little secret chef’s blend of spices…. When I was on television in Oklahoma years ago, this chef down there made this chef’s blend seasoning and I still have some of that left. I pop that into my Chicken Kiev and it makes it taste really good.

My mom taught me how to make Chicken Kiev when I was a kid way back when. We’d be have a big party for, like, twelve people and she’d make 40 servings and I’d help her. That’s how I learned. I’ve had a whole bunch of people over for Chicken Kiev parties at my house. People weren’t sure if they were going to like it, so afterwards, they actually rated my Chicken Kiev and played this game on me. They were acting like it got twos and threes but in the end they said they were just kidding and it really was good. I think it’s a ten out of ten.

I guarantee I can win a competition here in Kansas City with my Chicken Kiev. I think I can cook it better than my mom. If you put that in there she’ll kill me.
