Guilty Pleasures: Dan Meiners

By OWEN MORRIS
For more than a decade, Dan Meiners has been livening up weddings and photo-shoots with his unique floral arrangements and designs. He is the owner and principal designer of Studio Dan Meiners at 17th and Wyandotte in the Crossroads District. I met with him there in a spacious, well-furnished office so imagine my surprise when he told me what he eats when no one is looking.
My guiltiest pleasure would probably be fish and chips. It’s the number-one thing I always gravitate towards, even Long John Silvers! Yeah, Long John Silvers, I love them! I don’t know what it is. They’re disgusting but I love them. Especially the malt vinegar, it’s my favorite part. I drink it out of the packets because in the car how can you pour it on? You just have to eat it out of the packet.
As kids we’d go to St. Jo — that was a big city from Hiawatha — and we’d always go to Long John Silvers after we went to the movie. We’d always go to Baskin-Robbins after that. Or if we got really high class, we’d go to Red Lobster. That was a big thing for us kids. I probably haven’t grown up too much in some ways.
There not that much better in England, I’m sorry to say.
