Great Pumpkin Smash and other weekend possibilities

- This is a lot better than watching a squirrel eat the jack-o’-lantern off your porch.
Have you ever seen a monkey eating a pumpkin? What about a polar bear smashing one? It’s the Great Pumpkin Smash at the Kansas City Zoo (6800 Zoo Drive) on Saturday. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., zoo staff will be giving pumpkins to a variety of animals to watch them play with them and smash them and eat the orange fruits. Chimps and an orangutan get their chance at 1:30, and the polar bear, Nikita, gets her turn at 3 p.m. The event is included with your paid admission (residents of Kansas City, Missouri, get in free to the zoo this month).
