Frosting was the code word for April openings and closings

April was a great month for cupcakes. (Or “cupcakeries,” according to Fat City’s Jonathan Bender, who clearly had his tongue firmly in his cheek). But many dining venues that were scheduled to open this month will actually be opening in May — including Chubby’s on Barry Road and the 119th Street Diner.
The Country Club Plaza got its first all-cupcake bakery, Cupcake a la Mode, at 4639 Wornall, across from Houston’s. (Cupcake a la Mode’s original location is just west of the Plaza.) And Eudora, Kansas — the tiny town on the route to Lawrence — introduced Cami’s Cakes, a start-up business created by Cami SanRomani; she’s open as a retail operation only one day a month now but hopes to be open more frequently by summer.
