Free fried grilled chicken at KFC today

KFC has tried introducing grilled chicken onto its menu not once, not twice, but three times. All attempts ended unsuccessfully. But it must believe fourth time’s the charm to be giving away a free piece of grilled chicken today.

Yes, just stop in any participating KFC today and get one free grilled piece of chicken. Wing? Thigh?? Breast??? Depends on the KFC, as it’s each manager’s choice. No need to buy anything and no coupon required.

In this push to make grilled chicken successful, KFC is focusing on the nutritional info. Taking a quick glance at it, I dare say that it appears healthy. A grilled breast has 180 calories, 4 grams of fat and 18 percent of the recommended daily sodium. Compare that to an original-recipe chicken breast with 370 calories and more than 20 grams of fat, not to mention nearly half the daily recommended sodium.

But in asking Americans to “unthink” everything we thought about KFC, the company is trying to throw 40-plus years of advertising out the window, something you can’t just do overnight. And as Bill Maher puts it succinctly, its problems go beyond just the chicken.

Really, though, it will come down to taste. The original recipe still has its 13 secret spices. What does the grilled recipe have? Fake grill marks.
