Test your hard-earned knowledge of Boulevard Brewing Company‘s beers tonight at Chicken and Pickle (1761 Burlington Road, North Kansas City). You’ll be presented with six beers; guess all of them correctly and you’ll receive a $25 gift certificate to Chicken and Pickle. The games begin at 7 p.m. 

Tuesday, December 19

Chef Anakaren Ibarra and Happy Gillis owner Abbey-Jo Eans are putting their talents on display tonight at Happy Gillis (549 Gillis) for a multi-course, Mexican-inspired Feliz Navidad party. Thursday, December 21

Tis the season for stouts, and tonight McCoy’s Public House (4057 Pennsylvania) is releasing its Ursa Major Russian Imperial, beginning at 4 p.m. For those interested in bottles, organizers will begin handing out tickets to those in line at 3:30 (two-bottle limit, $18 apiece). Get yourself a pour at McCoy’s or at the Foundry, next door, for $10, and receive a commemorative glass. The 2015 and 2016 Ursa Major vintages will be available on tap as well.  

Friday, December 22

Just a couple of weeks after the opening of its new Plaza location, Rye at Mission Farms (10551 Mission Road, Leawood) is celebrating its fifth anniversary. Dinner and drink specials, as well as $5 slices of pie, commemorate the occasion. 

Saturday, December 23

Crowne Plaza (1301 Wyandotte) tonight plays host to a touring comedy/murder mystery/theater/dinner event, the Dinner Detective. Your $49 ticket (not including tax or gratuity) gets you passed appetizers and a four-course dinner (antipasto, salad, chicken/salmon/steak and dessert), in addition to the night’s participatory murder mystery. A cash bar will be available, and a prize package goes to the guest who solves the mystery. 


Sunday, December 24

A handful of selected Christmas Eve dining options:

Brunch at Jarocho South (13145 State Line Road) is running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is of course all about the seafood: $35 gets you access to Jarocho’s celebrated Sunday buffet, which includes Veracruz-style oysters, ceviche and whole fried fish. Reserve at the Ambassador Hotel  (1111 Grand) offers a three-course menu from 3 to 10 p.m. featuring salad, prime rib and pie or ice cream for $36 a person, with beverages, including bottles of wine, available for purchase. Ignite Wood-Fired Grill in Lenexa (8721 Ryckert Street) is offering brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner service from 4 to 8 p.m. The buffet includes a carving station, an omelet station, waffles and more, for $24 for adults and $12 for kids (with kids 3 and younger eating free). The dinner service is family-style, and includes rotisserie chicken, smoked salmon, bacon-wrapped tenderloin and a variety of sides. This is available for $29 for adults and $15 for kids.
