Fat City reader roasts Burger King ribs
I love barbecued ribs and God knows I’m not a food snob, but I just can’t bring myself to order them from the drive-through window at Burger King, which recently introduced its “fire-grilled ribs.” Burger King might be able to turn out a good burger, but ribs?
That’s where a Midtown dweller named Edward comes in. He called me this morning to give me his blunt opinion of Burger King’s new culinary innovation and the pay-off wasn’t pretty:
“I should have known better,” Edward said. “The photographs of the ribs are almost ecstatically beautiful. Juicy and beautiful. But a photograph doesn’t always tell a thousand words. In this case, it’s all deceptive. I went through the drive-through at a midtown Burger King last night at 9 p.m. and I knew there was going to be trouble when I got up to the first window and the cashier — well, I think he was doing everything including cooking the ribs — had this worried look on his face. He said, ‘It will be a few minutes on those ribs, they’re still cooking.’ Now I’m a fast food veteran and I know those words are code for catastrophe ahead!
