Excuse me, there’s a snake in my veggies…

Considering I’ve been eating in restaurants for years, I’ve been lucky when it comes to biting down on strange, foreign items — the ingredients that clearly aren’t part of the recipe — in a dish. True, once I nearly chipped a tooth on a little nut. No, not the edible kind, the kind you use to bolt things together.

As a waiter, I’ve seen customers pull little shards of glass out of their food (but not, thank God, their mouth), and on one horror night, a ten-penny nail and once — in a plate of vegetarian cous cous — a small meatball.

But this creepy story, from the Albany Times-Union, had me writhing in disbelief. A man, who ordered vegetables instead of french fries (his first mistake) at a T.G.I. Friday’s found a severed snake’s head mixed in with the broccoli. The diner told his girllfriend, “I think this is a head,” then snapped a photo of the snake head with his cell phone camera.
