Everyone wants to be a server! Who knew?

In the last few months, I’ve met two servers — both very elegant women in their 40s — who were also, in their “other” lives, real estate salespeople.
Two weeks ago, a friend of mine who works as a waiter at a pretty snazzy restaurant on the Country Club Plaza told me that the managers of that venue get “40 to 50 applications a week” for server jobs.
“They used to average 10 or 15 applications a week,” he said. “And these current applications are from people with MBAs or years of white collar job experience.”
This story, posted today on msnbc.com by Eve Tahmincioglu, verifies that in this tepid economy, restaurant jobs are hot, hot, hot. Employees who wouldn’t consider a food service job a couple of years ago are now dying to put on an apron.
