Dunkin’ Donuts at 75th and Metcalf is now open

A dozen cars waited in the drive-thru and an equal number of people were inside the store less than two hours after Dunkin’ Donuts opened at 7446 Metcalf this morning.

“What’s going on?” asked one.

“People getting donuts,” said the other.

That about summed it up. But Jack FM and KCMO Talk Radio 710 were both broadcasting live. A man (or woman?) in a donut suit and another dressed as a white cup of hot coffee waved to traffic. Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli surprised customers by appearing in the drive-thru window at 8 a.m. And as police directed traffic, three members of the Overland Park Fire Department waited in line for coffee and donuts.
