Former Kansas City restaurateur and novelist Lou Jane Temple has used chocolate as a plot device, if not actually an instrument of death, in her seventh book, Death Is Semisweet. But in real life, sweets — semi and otherwise — have been used as devices of death and as — just this week — the sweet reason that an accused killer was captured.
