Dish & Drink KC: Infused BBQ at Night Goat and Parisian crepes at Chez Elle Crêperie and Coffeehouse
Tucked inside a Parisian-styled brick building in the Westside neighborhood, Chez Elle Crêperie and Coffeehouse feels like a little slice of Paris right in the heart of Kansas City. From the moment you walk in, you’re wrapped in the smell of espresso and warm butter, with sunlight spilling across the tables and a soundtrack of soft conversation and clinking cups in the background.
Excited to try something new, I went for breakfast with a friend, and between the two of us, we covered both the sweet and savory sides of the menu.
She ordered the Pomme Tarte ($13.75), a sweet crepe filled with warm apple crisp, topped with crème anglaise and caramel sauce. One bite in, she looked up and said, “This tastes just like apple pie,” and she wasn’t wrong. It had an amazing balance of soft, buttery crepe and spiced apple filling, with just enough caramel to make every bite feel indulgent. If apple pie had a French cousin, this would be it.
I went the savory route with the Tour Eiffel ($17.50), which came packed with smoked salmon, capers, caramelized onions, artichokes, herbed cream cheese, and crème fraîche. The mix of flavors was spot on: smoky, tangy, creamy, and rich. Even with a couple of plant-based substitutions, it still felt decadent. And every forkful had the right amount of contrast. The brininess of the capers, the sweetness of the onions, and the creamy tang of the “cheese.” It exceeded my expectations, that’s for sure.
Chez Elle really nails the vibe, too. Cute enough for a date, relaxed enough for brunch with friends. They’ve got a fun lineup of breakfast cocktails that make lingering over another round feel completely justified. Plus, every detail of the place, from the chalkboard menus to the Parisian décor, felt intentional and charming.
I highly recommend throwing your family or friends in the car and popping over to order something sweet and something savory, and let Chez Elle remind you that sometimes, Kansas City really does know how to do “Paris of the Plains” just right.

Kansas City’s barbecue scene is no stranger to innovation, but when the folks behind Best Buds: Toasted Harvest at SWADE Dispensaries teamed up with Fox and Pearl’s sister concept, Night Goat, they took things to a whole new level. They offered Kansas City the infused BBQ lunch it didn’t know it needed—blending the flavors of Night Goat’s craft barbecue with a creative cannabis twist.
Now, the entire menu wasn’t fully infused, but that honestly made the experience even better. Only the sauces carried a mild 5mg THC infusion, allowing guests to control their own experience. Each guest’s meal consisted of a beautifully cooked flat iron steak, juicy pulled pork, jalapeño lime slaw, seasoned fries, and pickles, and every element had its place.
The meat was tender and smoky, the slaw crisp and bright, the fries seasoned just right. The infused sauces, one a classic BBQ, the other a mustard-based BBQ, were the stars that tied it all together. I drizzled the regular infused sauce over my meats, letting its bold flavors sink into the smoke, and spooned the mustard sauce onto my slaw, which was already top-tier on its own but somehow even better with that punch of sharp, tangy flavor. I even ended up dipping my fries in the mustard sauce. It was that good.
For drinks, we kicked things off with the Guy’s Garden mocktail, a refreshing blend of herbal syrup, orgeat, lime, and tonic water, which you could also infuse if you wanted to keep the theme going. It was light, crisp, and the perfect complement to a rich, smoky lunch.
What made the experience even more memorable was the setup. Some tables were arranged communal style, which gave me a chance to meet new people since I came solo. It turned out to be the perfect environment for conversation and connection, surrounded by the hum of laughter and the cozy, welcoming vibes of the space.
The entire Best Buds: Toasted Harvest lunch felt like a celebration of what modern Kansas City dining can be when creativity meets community. From the thoughtful menu to the mellow, social atmosphere, Night Goat and SWADE proved that cannabis-infused dining can be sophisticated, approachable, and undeniably fun.
And if you missed this one, don’t worry, the next Best Buds event is coming up on November 17 at The Westside Local, featuring a multi-course infused experience complete with mocktails, entrées, and dessert.
