Detroit saved by Kid Rock beer

During my first (and only) semester at Missouri Southern State University, I had a roommate who would play Kid Rock at ear-splitting levels every morning in the shower. Since he was on the football team, that meant his wake-up calls were around 6 a.m. After a talk with him about the music and a discussion about him being a linebacker versus me being a short communications major, we both agreed to the following: I was going to shut my mouth, he was going to play Kid Rock whenever he damn well felt like it and furthermore, not only was Kid Rock the best musician maybe ever, but my roommate knew the lyrics to every Kid Rock song.

I didn’t believe him about the latter. I looked up a lot of obscure Kid Rock lyrics to test him and sadly, he knew the lyrics to every single Kid Rock song. Listening to Kid Rock those three months, I learned that nearly all of his songs involve Michigan, drinking and women (not necessarily in that order). So it’s no surprise to learn that the “American Bad Ass” is making his own beer in Michigan.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the Michigan Brewing Company is investing $7 million and hiring nearly 400 people to make the new Kid Rock beer. Although a name or style hasn’t been chosen, people are already wondering whether the new lager will be a

premium-priced brew or a drink priced for Kid Rock’s working-class

fans. The brewery is reportedly hard at work serving samples to the man himself.

For his part, Kid Rock is already hard at work ruining whatever good will the beer might have instilled. Last week, in a Q Magazine interview about his past run-ins with the law, he admitted he drank too much. “I think that the judge made a mistake when he sentenced me. [to anger management treatment]. I

think he probably should have sent me to Alcoholics Anonymous because I

do have a drinking problem … None of these fights would have ever

occurred without drinking.”

Even with Kid Rock shooting his beer in the foot, I’d still buy stock in it if I could. From the amount my roommate and his fellow teammates drank, this beer is going to fly off the shelves when it’s released this spring.
