Cowtown Cheesecake to participate in Sugar Rush and will open new shop

Chef Terry Mille, who turned his focus from fine cuisine to custom-made cheesecakes five years ago, will be one of the featured vendors in the fourth annual Pitch Sugar Rush event on Thursday, January 29. The event combines sweets, coffee and liquor in a setting both congenial and confectionary at the Promise Wedding & Event Space at 1814 Oak.
Mille says he plans to serve samples of a green-tea cheesecake, baked in an almond-cookie crust with a blackberry compote.
Sugar Rush, which begins at 6 p.m., will be Mille’s first big public event after he holds the grand opening on Saturday, January 24, for his Cowtown Cheesecake Bakery & Cafe, at 133 Oak in downtown Bonner Springs. Mille’s first retail space and cafe will sell both whole cheesecakes and cheesecake by the slice, as well as freshly brewed coffees, an assortment of soups and sandwiches, and other pastries.
The January 24 grand opening of Cowtown Cheesecake Bakery & Cafe will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. When the shop re-opens on Monday, January 26, the hours will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Mille’s future plans for the bakery and cafe include family-style dinners for parties of 10 or more, offered by reservation only.
Sugar Rush, the sweets-and-dessert expo, is a ticketed event with advance tickets ($12). Featured vendors will bring a luscious display of delicious treats to sample. For tickets, click here or call 816-561-6061.
