Tomorrow — Thursday, July 30 — is National Cheesecake Day.
But one local cheesecake vendor isn’t making a fuss over the culinary holiday.
Terry Mille, who owns and operates Cowtown Cheesecake Bakery & Cafe, at 133 Oak in Bonner Springs, will be selling slices of cheesecake tomorrow in his six-month-old shop, but he’s waiting until Saturday to host his very own National Cheesecake Day.
That’s the day he’ll be serving slices of cheesecake for free.

Since opening his first retail shop last January, Mille has expanded his repertoire, serving light lunches (usually a choice of two sandwiches), coffee, and breakfast pastries (including iced crodo, his version of the cronut) along with his cheesecakes.
Because he has conflicts tomorrow on the actual National Cheesecake Day, he postponed his plans to celebrate until Saturday, August 1. And he’s doing it big.
“I’ll be serving free coffee, free crodo, and free slices of my Kansas vanilla cream cheesecake,” Mille says. “I’m only asking for a small donation, not mandatory, to go to a Bonner Springs charity called Feed His Lambs, which helps feed the less fortunate.”
Mille, who usually closes his shop at noon on Saturday, will stay open until 2 p.m. August 1.
“We’re also doing a drawing for a cheesecake every month for a year,” Mille says.
