May saw the closing of an old favorite in Overland Park: Tienda Casa Paloma, the combination Mexican diner and market on Metcalf. A sign taped to the window announces that a new restaurant, Gavino’s Mexican Restaurant, is scheduled to open in the space.
Savvy Coffee & Wine Bar in the Power & Light District is still closed, despite continuing rumors that it will re-open. That could be a latte of hot air.
Baker and restaurateur James Holmes moved a Westport landmark, Napoleon Bakery, out of the once-popular dining destination area west of the Plaza and re-opened in the long-vacant space formerly occupied by Artisan Francais Bakery in Overland Park. The Westport venue is currently for lease.
