Chef John McClure to open Barrio, a taqueria

John McClure, the celebrated chef-owner of Starker’s Restaurant on the Country Club Plaza, will be expanding into Westport later this year, but his new venue won’t be anything like his upscale bistro on the Plaza.

McClure’s new project will be a 75-seat taqueria called Barrio, located in a 1,900-square-foot storefront at 4141 Pennsylvania — the combination condo and retail space across the street from Califorrnos. It won’t be just any taqueria, either, McClure says.
