Celebrate the Ides of March with Caesar … salad

Yes, we know that the Caesar who was murdered on the “ides of March” — March 15, 44 B.C. — wasn’t the same Caesar as the inventor of the famous salad of the same name: an Italian-born Mexican, Caesar Cardini. But Cardini was, undoubtedly, named for the ill-fated Roman emperor assassinated on this date in history. So it’s fitting that a Caesar salad should be served on this auspicious day.
