Now that the term cougar is firmly in the popular vernacular, there’s a newer — younger! — category: the puma. According to the Urban Dictionary, a cougar is defined this way:

“(noun) a 35+ year old female who is on the ‘hunt’ for a much younger, energetic, willing-to-do-anything male. The cougar can frequently be seen in a padded bra, cleavage exposed, propped up against a swanky bar waiting, watching, calculating; gearing up to sink her claws into an innocent young and strapping buck who happens to cross her path.”

Ashley Cleveland, the publicist for Leawood’s RA Sushi restaurant says that in her opinion, a cougar is a woman over 40, and a puma is in her late 20s or early 30s. You know, around the same age range as, say, Ashley Cleveland. “This is just my opinion now,” Cleveland says. “Nothing’s been formally established.”

What has been formally established is “Puma Wednesdays” at the combination restaurant and nightclub. It kicks off tonight, from 7 to 10 p.m.
