California Pizza Kitchen on Plaza is closing on Sunday

Eleven years after California Pizza Kitchen opened on the Country Club Plaza in a space formerly occupied by the original Houlihan’s Old Place, the casual-dining restaurant is closing.

“Our last day of business will be September 28,” said a manager, who would not confirm any more details about the restaurant’s closing. The California Pizza Kitchen in Leawood at 11655 Ash will remain open.

What will take this venue’s place? At the moment, that might call for a crystal ball: Glenn Stephenson, vice president and division manager for Highwoods Properties, issued the following statement:

“We would like to thank California Pizza Kitchen for being a part of the Plaza for many years. We’re already looking forward to bringing another exciting new experience to the Plaza. We’ll explore multiple opportunities and announce another exciting and vibrant new option for Kansas City soon.”
