Boulevard’s Saison-Brett hits store shelves and taps Tuesday

  • They never stop brewing over on Southwest Boulevard.

With beer, absence simply makes you thirsty. On Tuesday, you have a chance to drink a beer that even Steven Pauwels, Boulevard’s brewmaster, misses. That’s when the latest Smokestack release, Saison-Brett (a take on Tank 7), begins to start showing up on taps and shelves around town.

Just as we noted in June 2012 (the last time this beer was on shelves), “the Brett in Saison-Brett is Brettanomyces, a strain of yeast that imparts an earthy flavor during the three-month bottle-conditioning process.” The farmhouse ale’s IBU is 38; it’s 8.5 percent alcohol by volume. Boulevard recommends pairing it with English Stilton or portobello mushrooms. I recommend buying a bottle to cellar and get you through until we see it again in May or June of 2014.
