Boulevard’s Nommo Dubbel hits shelves today

Kansas Citians get a second crack at Boulevard’s Nommo Dubbel starting today. The seasonal Smokestack Series release is slated to be on shelves again, a year after Boulevard introduced the Belgian-style ale for the first time. In its tasting notes, the Kansas City brewery suggests that Nommo Dubbel “showcases the coriander, cinnamon and star anise used in the kettle, complementing them with clove and banana notes contributed by the Belgian yeast.”
This one is for malt lovers, and while the nose is sweet, the spices are what come to the forefront once it has been poured. Boulevard gave me a bottle on Friday, and this year’s iteration of the deep-amber brew has a bit less carbonation. The brewery got some good news this weekend when its Reverb Imperial Pilsner earned a gold medal at the 2012 Great American Beer Festival. (Bottles were still available late last week at the Berbiglia off the Plaza.) Zon was awarded a gold medal in the Belgian-style Witbier category. The next beer slated for release in the Smokestack line is the Harvest Dance Wheat Wine, which should be on shelves in early November. As always, feel free to leave your impressions and where you were able to pick up a bottle.
