Bluestem again makes the list of James Beard Award semifinalists, among other regional favorites
The James Beard Awards are among the highest honors in the food world — and have become one of the most recognized outside the industry. This morning, semifinalists for the 2017 awards were announced, and the KC area received a respectable amount of love.
Bluestem tops the list with its nod for Outstanding Restaurant, and Manifesto received a nomination for Outstanding Bar Program. Chef Patrick Ryan of Port Fonda is up for Best Chef–Midwest, Taylor Petrahn earned mention for his work as Outstanding Baker at 1900 Barker in Lawrence (the first time any establishment in Lawrence has been recognized), and Megan Garrelts (also a co-owner of Bluestem with her husband, Colby) received a nod for Outstanding Pastry Chef at Rye in Leawood.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Lyric Opera of Chicago on Monday, May 1. Read the full list of nominees here.
