Bill McKibben is coming to Kansas City in September to talk Oil and Honey

  • McKibben draws powerful connections between beekeeping and fossil fuels in his latest book.

The next time you need a topic for a proper bar debate, ask the guy on the stool next to you whether we’re going to run out of oil or honey first. And then once you’ve resigned yourself to living in a dystopian future where cars smell like french fries from the biodiesel that powers them and Renaissance fairs have nobody selling honey-sticks candy, think about buying a ticket to see Bill McKibben speak.

The author of Oil and Honey: The Education of an Unlikely Activist is slated to swing through Kansas City on Friday, September 27, at 7 p.m. Rainy Day Books is bringing McKibben in to talk about the year he spent with a Vermont beekeeper to understand the importance of local honey production. McKibben’s first-person work delves into the honey universe and how its being impacted at a global level by the fossil-fuel industry. Tickets to the event at Unity Temple (707 West 47th Street) cost $26, which include an autographed copy of his book and a spare guest ticket for your fellow barfly.
