Best Of is here! Party Time! Excellent!

The Pitch released its annual Best Of Kansas City issue yesterday, the biggest and baddest issue of the year. I hadn’t seen a lot of the closely guarded winners and was pleasantly surprised by some — and depressed to see that even though I’ve lived in this town for twenty-odd years, I hadn’t heard of some of the places listed in the food category. That’s a credit to my co-workers who worked their asses off to sniff out every tip, clue and Indian buffet while I sat on my butt and tested some wines.

Here’s the link to the Web page but really, I highly recommend you find your closest Pitch newsstand and pick up a hard copy of this issue. The first thing you’ll notice is the pull-out’s glossy cover. This puppy is meant to last and to be used all year long. It’s 82 pages of advice and to be honest, I’m still digesting it. Better be quick though as people hoard this edition and a couple of stands I checked on the Plaza were already three-quarters empty.

Here is a small sample of the food winners with the reader’s choice in parenthesis.

Best Comfort Food: O’Neill’s Restaurant & Bar (Stroud’s)

Best Sliders: Uncle Bill’s Mini Cheeseburgers (Tanner’s Bar & Grill)

Best Kansas City Strip: The Range Steakhouse (Hereford House)

Best Place to Blow a Diet: Peppercorn Duck Club (Dragonfly Boba Tea and Bakery)

Best New Restaurant: Mandarinism (Delaware Cafe)

Best New Bar: The Foundry (Riot Room)

Best Happy Hour: Hannibal’s Waldo Bar & Grill (La Bodega)
