Battle of the dishes: Halloween Peeps versus Dots

In an effort to continue our bacchanalian decline into Halloween, Fat City will be bringing you a candy battle each week until that Saturday. Today it’s a Halloween animal-inspired battle — Chocolate Mousse Marshmallow Cats versus Bat Dots (Blood Orange Flavor).
Marshmallow Cats (from Just Born — the makers of Peeps)
The marshmallow cats share the same fused body structure as their chick and bunny brethren, packed eight to a plastic case. While the smudging of some of the faces is disconcerting, the overall shape is indicative of cats. Although if a black cat is bad luck, perhaps a brown cat is merely a warning of the black cat to come?
From the crystalized outsides, the initial aroma is one of chocolate pudding. The texture mirrors a classic Peep, slightly crunchy immediately giving way to the marshmallow-y inside.
The flavor, again more pudding, is not overly strong — it’s more marshmallow chocolate than chocolate marshmallow. Like when you dunk a marshmallow in a cup of hot cocoa.
