Battle of the dishes: Eggnog ice cream sandwiches vs. pumpkin frozen dairy dessert

The frozen food aisle is not immune to Christmas creep. Besides the annual appearance of peppermint ice cream, there are lots of holiday-flavored ice cream treats to sample.
To determine which of the other flavors should become holiday staples, Fat City has pitted Fat Boy Egg Nog Ice Cream Sandwiches against Edy’s Pumpkin Frozen Dairy Dessert in a battle of the dishes.
Edy’s Pumpkin Frozen Dairy Dessert
The limited edition
pumpkin offering has a lower concentration of milk fat, so it is
defined as a frozen dairy dessert instead of ice cream. The first three
ingredients are whey, skim milk and cream.
The color is closer to
a creamsicle or orange sherbet than bright orange, which is
comforting. It’s creamy and easy to scoop into the bowl — more Wendy’s Frosty than Ben and Jerry’s.
The
taste is mildly pumpkin and evokes the pumpkin pie on
the packaging. This should have been called pumpkin pie frozen dairy
dessert. Tiny flecks of cinnamon and nutmeg come
through quite clearly. It’s like a lighter version of the Shatto pumpkin spice egg nog.
