Barbosa’s Express has closed on Oak Street

Barbosa’s Express has closed its downtown location after deciding that the lunch business wasn’t brisk enough to support a restaurant. The space at 1128 Oak is becoming a bit of a revolving door as the Latin Bistro Express also failed to find steady traffic from the lunch set. Barbosa’s Express – a family franchise of the popular pair of restaurants in St. Joseph – opened last August.

However, fans of the Mexican restaurant with St. Joseph roots might not have to hop in the car just yet to get a cheese enchilada covered in red pork chili. As its Facebook page explains, Barbosa’s Express could return in a new incarnation: “We are entertaining the idea of a full-service restaurant opening elsewhere in KC in the future.” Guac springs eternal.
