- TV wants to watch you grill.
If you’ve always thought they make grilling look easy on television, here’s your opportunity to find out if you’re right. A reality cooking competition is seeking grill jockeys and pitmasters to represent Kansas City in a neighborhood barbecue throw-down. Grillmeisters are also being auditioned in Memphis, Austin, Detroit, Brooklyn and the Chicago area.
The show, which has a $10,000 cash prize, is looking for you (and not a barbecue team) to showcase your “dynamic competitive personality as well as your best barbecue,” in a five-to-10 minute video uploaded to YouTube. The video should be shot in your backyard, showcase your barbecue equipment, and give a sense of the kind of party you would throw for 50 of your closest friends. They’re also looking for unusual or creative barbecue preparations.
Booking producer David Cottrell, with the Michael Group Ltd., explained that the show would be on a “major cable network” and would air “sometime next year.” You can submit your photo and a link to your video to bbqcasting@gmail.com with your neighborhood, city, name and age in the subject line. There is currently no deadline for submissions.
