Aldi now opening at 39th and Prospect in 2013

Aldi is still coming to 39th and Prospect; it just won’t arrive as quickly as first expected. The city announced that the grocery chain would be building a store as part of the 39th and Prospect TIF plan in November of last year. The store build-out was expected to cost $5 million and be completed this summer.

In April of this year, the city voted to lift the $625,000 cap on the TIF plan to aid in the construction of the Aldi store. KSHB had a story last night on the city being awarded a $200,000 grant to clean up hazardous waste at the intersection of 39th and Prospect. The timeline for Aldi opening is now sometime in 2013. Until then, there’s the lovely picture (above) of what might be on the chain-link fence that rings the site.
