A pitcher of your finest Kool-Aid wine
Sometimes, we here in Fat City come across an item that might just inspire new lows — or highs — such as this recipe for Kool-Aid wine.
The recipe raises a lot of interesting questions, like if such a wine would truly improve with age. The recipe suggest that after five years this would not just be a drinkable wine but one you would choose. That seems like the kind of statement someone would make out of confidence that nobody would actually age Kool-Aid wine.
The recipe creator’s optimism is, however, commendable:
“In most areas, making your own wine is perfectly legal, but you are not allowed to sell it.”
At Winepress.Us, one forum member argues that it probably tastes like “water wine with color.” Another suggests that orange Kool-Aid mixed with a peach wine kit made a “pretty decent fuzzy navel wine.” With a cost average of $1 per liter (a decent wine will run you $10 for .75 liters), “pretty decent” is a ringing endorsement.
Cheap wine enthusiasts can also try canned juice concentrate — although wine doesn’t feel like something that should just be a result of whatever is in the pantry.
